The CTMS research team will participate in the CTMS – MyAgeing® Workshop Series, jointly organized with MyAgeing® at University Putra Malaysia (UPM) from November 19 to 21, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Focused on intergenerational care and ageing-related issues, this workshop series will feature CTMS Director Ki-Soo Eun, Senior Research Fellows Jiweon Jun and Hyuna Moon, Researcher Minseok Kang, and Program Manager Yeon Bora as speakers and panelists. The team will share insights on population ageing and the care economy in South Korea and Malaysia, exploring approaches to strengthen intergenerational solidarity.

CTMS Director, Ki-Soo Eun, attended the 2024 International Forum on Families and Megatrends hosted by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) in Malaysia last February. He participated in the expert group meeting as a panelist and speaker on family and population trends.

The CTMS Research Team presented at the 45th International Association for Time Use Research Conference (IATUR). CTMS Director Ki-Soo Eun, CTMS Senior Research Fellows Hyuna Moon and Jiweon Jun, and CTMS Researchers Minseok Kang and Bora Yeon all delivered presentations.

Director Ki-Soo Eun presented “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: New Challenges in Korea” and with Senior Research Fellow Hyuna Moon, he presented “Work-Life Balance and Caring Masculinities: Insights from Male Caregivers in Korean Society.”

Senior Research Fellow Jiweon Jun and Researchers Minseok Kang and Bora Yeon presented “Unveiling the Hidden: Enhancing Measurement of Care Activities through Caregiver-Focused Time Using Diaries.” Senior Research Fellow Jiweon Jun with Professor Ito Peng from the University of Toronto, presented “A Comparative Analysis of Care Time Allocation in Korea and Canada.”

Jiweon Jun (CTMS Senior Research Fellow) presented at a Korean Gerontological Society seminar, sharing findings from the 2022 Korea Care Survey, which examined the physical, mental, and opportunity cost burden of caregivers at home.

Under the theme of "Addressing the Challenges of Demographic Change: Drivers and Solutions," Ki-soo Eun, the head of The Population Association of Korea, attended the National Assembly Forum on Response to the Low Birth and Population Cliff hosted by the Presidential Committee on Ageing Society and Population Policy. He discussed how to adapt and cope with the challenges of low birthrate, aging, and caring for Korean society, which is undergoing unprecedented rapid demographic change.

From May to July 2020, we investigated the reality of migrants excluded from the Korean government's disaster support policy due to the spread of Covid-19, focusing on the analysis of 1,907 applications filed by the Korea Women Migrants Human Rights Center

CTMS co-organized a special public event with Ilmin Museum of Art (http://ilmin.org/en/) with the aim of promoting values of diversity and inclusivity, and more specifically, to enhance the general public's perception and discussion of care.

Hyuna Moon (Senior Researcher) attended as a panelist and a guest speaker to raise pertinent questions related to care work as it connects to the life of every ordinary individual. She engaged in a conversation with the audience in between short acts about childcare, eldercare, and the disproportionate strain on women, and wrap up with a message on how we can better approach the question of care burden.

A seminar on understanding and application of interviews using the oral history methodology was held for master's students at Seoul National University's Graduate School of International Studies who are participating in the CTMS “Integration of Refugees in Korean Society” research project.

CTMS signed an MOU with the Design Institute of Inje University in Gimhae, which studies care-friendly social design, for research cooperation. Considering the characteristics of Gimhae, where there are many migrants, we would also like to participate in research and activities for migrant women.
