2021. 04. 08

Nearly 64.9% of mothers reported they need ‘some time alone’, according to the brief on Childcare during COVID-19 and Mental Health Crisis for Parents prepared by Center for Transnational Migration and Social Inclusion(CTMS) at Seoul National University. Mothers also experienced a considerable change in their mental health condition due to an increased demand for child care at home during the pandemic. Eun-hye Kang, a researcher at CTMS, said, “the perception remains strong that it is a woman’s job to watch the children at home.” Kang also emphasized the urgent need for social consideration, stating, “parents who spend the entire day at home struggling with their young children deal with a lot of stress, but they are not classified as having a specific occupation nor included among those who should be observed in terms of their mental health.”
